What Is Swift Therapy?
SWIFT is a medical microwave technology that is highly effective at resolving warts, verrucae or papillomas from our skin. A focused microwave signal is emitted into the skin to a predetermined depth of 3.5mm to ensure only the wart is treated. The microwave elicit a process called heat shock within the infected cells. This causes a release of proteins into the circulatory system allowing for an immune response.
How Safe Are Microwaves?
Microwaves are a form of non-ionising radiation that doesn't cause any damage to the DNA of living organisms. SWIFT utilises very low energy levels that are able to vibrate water molecules within the cell walls.
Will I Feel Anything?
Rapid heating to roughly 42-45 degrees can cause mild discomfort, however this only lasts for a couple of seconds. The temperature range is just a few degrees warmer than a hot bath. Treatment will not cause any serious tissue damage or scarring. You can walk straight out after treatment without any discomfort.
How Many Treatments Will I Need?
This is dependant on how you respond to the treatment. Most patients require 3 treatments. Your podiatrist will discuss this with you during your consultation.
